The CardScanSync utility is a Windows desktop application whose purpose is to keep your CardScan files synchronized with your ScanBizCards WebSync account. It is always running in the background and will periodically check to see if you have made any local changes in the CardScan Executive application (and upload these changes to the web) or any changes on the web through your WebSync account (and download these changes to a local CDB file). Getting the utility up and running consists of a few simple steps:
Save the file at www.scanbizcards.com/cardscan.exe and run it once downloaded. (If your antivirus software deletes this file automatically when you download it, click here for instructions). Follow the standard installation prompts. It is highly recommended that you let the utility start when Windows starts (this is the default option so you do not need to change anything). On the final screen of the installation you will see an option to run the utility immediately afterwards which is checked by default. It is recommended that you leave this checked and then click the "Close" button which will close the installer and run the utility.
The first screen of the utility is the login screen. (If this screen does not pop up automatically after installation is finished, check the Windows task bar at the bottom - it may be there just hidden behind other windows). Here you must provide the e-mail address and password you used when registering for WebSync on scanbizcards.com (note: this is distinct from the email and password you may have used with the CardScan At Your Service backup service). If you are entering the correct email and password and repeatedly see an error message saying unable to login and asking you to check your internet connection, most likely your antivirus software or Windows Firewall is interfering with the utility's ability to access the internet. Click here for instructions how to fix this.
Once you are logged in, the utility will have already started searching your computer for CardScan Database files (CDB's). On this screen you will be able to choose which of your local CDB's you want to keep synchronized with your WebSync account. Wait until all the CDB's you want to sync appear in the list box and put a check next to those (or for advanced users, save time by clicking Manually Browse for CDB's to locate the CDB's in your file system) and click Next.
If you are content with default settings, you may skip this screen by clicking Next at the bottom. Otherwise, please read the instructions preceding each setting and make your selections, then click Next.
At this point the utility will begin the two-way synchronization process (you do not need to manually click Sync Now for this to happen), first by uploading cards from any local CDB's you selected to your WebSync account, and then by downloading any cards you already had in your WebSync account to local CDB files. You may pause this process at any time by pressing the Pause Syncing button. You can later resume by pressing the same button.
The utility is set to check for local changes every minute, but only check for web changes every hour. If you would like to force a check for web changes, click the Sync Now button.
Please be aware that cards from the web are downloaded in batches of 500, so do not be surprised if you have more than 500 cards but you see messages like "Downloading card 1 of 500"- the rest of your cards will be downloaded in subsequent batches.
At any time during the syncing process you may click the Settings button to change the set of which CDB's are being synchronized or to modify the advanced options discussed in Step 4.
You may view your cards in your WebSync account at any time by clicking the "View Cards on Web..." menu item
You can minimize the utility to the system tray by clicking the X button in the top right corner of the utility's window.
After you minimize the utility to the system tray, or after you restart your computer, you will be able to re-open the utility by locating its green icon in the Windows system tray as indicated in the graphic above. (Sometimes you will need to click the left-facing arrow icon to display more items if you do not see the CardScanSync icon initially.) Double click the CardScanSync icon, or right click the icon and selected "Main Window" in order to re-open the utility.
